Intent

In Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), we provide a broad, balanced, engaging, and inspiring curriculum that fosters a love of learning and prepares children for future academic success. We recognise that EYFS forms a crucial foundation of each child's educational journey, and aim to meet the diverse needs and circumstances of all pupils. This is achieved through a carefully designed curriculum that incorporates these areas of learning: 

• Communication and Language
• Physical Development
• Personal, Social, and Emotional Development.
• Thinking

We achieve this by delivering a balance of adult-led and child-initiated learning experiences, utilising both continuous and enhanced provision within a stimulating and enriching indoor and outdoor environment. Our learning spaces are designed to spark curiosity and excitement, placing children's interests at the heart of their learning.
We are committed to fostering strong partnerships with parents and caregivers, ensuring that we work collaboratively to support each child's development. A clear action plan is in place to continuously develop and enhance our EYFS provision, curriculum, and learning environment, ensuring high-quality learning and teaching experiences across all areas of the curriculum. We assess children's progress regularly, using this information to inform our teaching and support their individual learning journeys.

Implementation

At Le Rondin School, the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is underpinned by the following key elements:

• Individual Education Goals: We utilise Individual Learning Plans (IEPs) to identify and address barriers to learning. This ensures that our curriculum is tailored to meet the diverse needs of all pupils.
• Collaborative Curriculum Development: Collaboration with subject leaders ensures we have a bespoke curriculum that offers both breadth and depth, equipping pupils with the skills and knowledge necessary for their next educational stage.
• Monitoring Progress: We closely monitor pupil progress using the Early Years Developmental Journal, as recommended by the States Early Years Team. This tool allows us to track development effectively and make informed decisions about teaching strategies.
• Encouraging Independence: Children are encouraged to develop independence, with staff providing tailored support as needed. This approach fosters confidence and self-reliance in our pupils.
• Engaging Parents: We believe in the importance of strong partnerships with parents. Our communication strategy includes parent evenings and end-of-year reports, ensuring that parents are informed and involved in their child's learning journey. We use platforms such as Seesaw, text messages, and emails to facilitate effective communication with parents. Class teams provide regular updates on children's learning, fostering strong relationships and engagement.
• Smooth Transition: The transition from Assessment Nursery to Assessment Reception at Le Rondin is carefully managed. We conduct a parent presentation in June to share key information and important dates, ensuring a seamless transition for both pupils and families.

Through these strategies, we create a nurturing and supportive environment that aligns with our intent to provide a broad, balanced, and engaging EYFS curriculum. Our commitment to continuous improvement ensures that every child is given the opportunity to thrive and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Impact

The impact of the EYFS curriculum at Le Rondin School is clearly reflected in the joyful and nurturing atmosphere that permeates our learning environment. Strong, positive relationships between staff and pupils foster a sense of security and belonging, which is essential for effective learning.

Our well-planned activities and supportive opportunities ensure that children feel welcome and settled upon arrival, laying a solid foundation for their learning experiences. As a result, children demonstrate high levels of motivation and start to develop their independence. They are encouraged to explore and engage in their learning, fostering resilience and self-assurance.

Children demonstrate improved movement, strength, and agility within their physical development. Our curriculum promotes active play and encourages children to take managed risks, supporting their physical growth.

The excellent relationships between pupils and staff are a cornerstone of our EYFS provision, significantly contributing to the positive impact on children's learning and development. This strong partnership fosters emotional security and encourages children to thrive.
